David S.H. Bell, M.B. is a native of Northern Ireland. He attended Queens University Belfast medical school and did his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast. He also did a residency and an endocrine fellowship at University Hospital Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and an endocrine fellowship at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. After two years in private practice, Dr. Bell returned to academia holding faculty appointments at Temple University and Pennsylvania State University before, in 1980, joining the faculty at the University of Alabama Medical School where he is now Professor of Medicine and director of the endocrine division clinical research program.
Dr. Bell has published 120 articles in referenced medical journals, is a reviewer for many general medicine and endocrine journals and is on the editorial board of Endocrine Practice.Dr. Bell’s academic interests include the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the treatment of diabetic complications. He has been active in many clinical interventional trials for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and its complications. In addition, he has a large practice and his clinical abilities have been recognized by his peers with his inclusion in the “Best Doctors in America.”
